Classroom News and Important Updates

1. We're excited as our annual Christmas Concert is tomorrow evening! The students are asked to wear a Santa hat for the performance. Please meet me in Ms. Hodgins classroom room 175 at 5:10 pm (schedule is in your child's mailbag today and attached below).  After our performance, please meet your child on the exit side of the stage. Please let me know when you have picked up your child so that I am able to keep track of numbers.

2. A note and permission slip went home in your child's mailbag yesterday. We will be singing Christmas carols at the Granite Ridge Retirement Residence on Tues Dec. 15. Please sign and return the permission form by Fri Dec 11. Parents and guardians are welcome to join us (please indicate this on the slip) by meeting us there. We hope to see you there!

3. Please ensure all library books are returned this week. New library books will not be borrowed until the New Year.

4. The students have been participating in weekly Advent Liturgies on Monday mornings. It has been wonderful to see the many "gifts" written on with good deeds that have been filling our Advent tree. Keep them coming!

5. Food donations and Socks for the Ottawa Mission have been steadily coming in. Thank you for your generosity!

A note went home in your child's mailbag today. We're requesting that the students wear a Santa Hat for their performance in the Christmas concert on Thursday.

We've been busy preparing our hearts for Advent by sharing our good deeds with one another. Our Advent tree is starting to fill up with the many gestures of kindness.

We hope you can join us tomorrow morning for our Advent Mass @ 10:15am in the Gymnasium.

Over the next few weeks your children will get a chance to take home our "I Can Tell Time Tote."  

Each student will take the tote home nightly to add a page to our class book. They will get an opportunity to share their journal page with us the following day.

Thank you to all who were able to join us at our Remembrance Day Ceremony today! It was a lovely service as we remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  So very proud of our students in the gym today.

We used poppies to make number sentences today. Ask your child to make a number sentence for you, like the picture below!

What a wonderful first day I had with my new grade one friends today. So very happy to get to work with this group of wonderful and talented children! Check twitter for some pictures from our learning experiences today! :)

Classroom Reminders :)

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday November 10 is picture retake day. Please return the proofs if you wish to have your child's photo retaken. Students who were absent on picture day will also have their photo taken tomorrow.

All parents and guardians are invited to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday November 11 in the gym starting at 10:15 am.

Park Trip Cancelled


Due to the poor weather expected on Wednesday October 28, we are rescheduling our walk to the park for next Wednesday, November 4th. Let's hope the weather is much better!

Happy Halloween Week

In support of the United Way, we are having a spirit week at school! Students are invited to donate $2 to participate in these special days.


  • Tuesday - Sports/Jersey Day
  • Wednesday - Crazy Hat/ Crazy Hair Day(also our park visit day)
  • Thursday - PJ Day (Pumpkin Day!)
  • Friday - Orange and Black Day for Grades 1-6

The Global Read Aloud

This week we are beginning our six week adventure of the Global Read Aloud! Our focus this year are the books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (Author Study):

Week 1:  We start with Chopsticks
Week 2:  Week 2 is all about Duck! Rabbit!
Week 3:  Then on to It’s Not Fair!
Week 4:  Week 4 will focus on the trials of being an Exclamation Mark
Week 5:  I love that we end week 5 with The OK Book
Week 6:  Our choice - I'm undecided at the moment.

Welcome to Our New Student Teacher

Wednesday, Ms. Magar will be joining our class. She is a student teacher from Ottawa University. She will be with us every Wednesday until the end of November, followed by a month long placement with us in December. Welcome Ms. Magar

Also a few other notes:
Library day is Monday (please return all books by Monday so that you can take a new book every Monday)
Gym Days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Homework will begin next week! More information is coming soon!

Catch Up Time

As many of you know I suffered a broken ankle on March Break! Haha - Yes I know! #badbreak on March Break. Now that I have a little (ALOT) of time on my hands, I thought I would work on catching up on the blog.
